The birthplace of Classical Greece, and therefore of democracy and Western civilization Athens is one of the worlds most treasured cities. The Acropolis and iconic Temple to the cities god Athena which sits on top – the Parthenon, can be seen from across the city, whilst the narrow streets of the village like Plaka district sit quietly in its shadows and its port Piraeus is the gateway to the Greek Islands. With uncountable numbers of ancient history sites of interest and world class museums such as the Benaki, one visit is never enough.
