The Paris Beach

Mon 21 Jul 2008 - Sun 31 Aug 2008

The annual Paris Beach comes to the French capital from July 21st until August 31st.

Two miles of the right bank of the River Seine are transformed into a beach, complete with white sand, palm trees and sunbeds, for those who want to have a paddle or relax in the sun.

Since 2002, the beach has been a popular attraction for people visiting Gay Paree and there are also a range of sporting activities for people to take part in, including volleyball and petanque.

If sport does not float your boat, then old-time dance cafes will be holding dance sessions known as ginguettes.

Beach project designer Jean-Christophe Choblet says the aim of the attraction is to encourage lazing and strolling by the river.

Throughout the summer, the area plays host to concert performances and comedy shows.

Other attractions in Paris include the Eiffel Tower, the Musée du Louvre, the Notre Dame de Paris and the Musée National d'Art Moderne.

The city is a hotbed of cafes, restaurants, art galleries, theatres and opera houses.
