Chinese contemporary photography in Lille

From July 11th until September 7th lille3000 and the City of Lille will be hosting an exhibition of contemporary Chinese photography.

The exhibition is being organised in collaboration with Atrium Contemporary Art Centre of Vitoria and Palau de La Virreina Explosicions of Barcelona.

Entitled ZHÙ YÌ - literally translated as 'attention' - the show takes a look at various aspects of everyday life from the perspective of contemporary artists.

ZHÙ YÌ features 110 spectacular photos - all of which were taken between 1994 and 2006 - exploring China's history and cultural influences, in addition to the changing nature of Chinese identity within the context of modern globalisation.

While some of the photos exhibited evoke romantic notions of China's mythical past, others reflect the optimism felt by many of the country's young artists who are living in a new era of economic prosperity.

Admission to the exhibition is €3 with concessions for under 18s, students under 26 and senior citizens at €1. Entry is free for those under the age of 12 and lille3000 pass holders.
